The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) has launched two major national initiatives: the School of Business Languages and “StepUp English,” a countrywide Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project designed to enhance communication skills across the island.
The School of Business Languages was officially inaugurated on August 17, 2026, aimed at empowering finance experts and corporate leaders with international language skills and cross-cultural competence. The ceremony was attended by prominent dignitaries, including CA Sri Lanka President Mr. Tishan Subasinghe, Vice President Ms. Anoji de Silva, CEO Ms. Lakmali Priyangika, School Committee Chairperson Ms. Jani Ganeshan, alongside representatives from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Sri Lanka and Ms. Bai Xiaping, Assistant Managing Director of CHEC Port City Colombo.
Alongside this professional academy, CA Sri Lanka introduced “StepUp English,” a national initiative offering free English language instruction to students aged 15 and above across all regions of Sri Lanka to bolster higher education and career prospects for the youth.
Key Offerings of the School of Business Languages
- Foundation in Chinese for Business Professionals: Commencing September 2026.
- Business English for Professionals: Commencing October 2026.
- Upcoming Courses: Specialized business modules in Arabic and French.
Highlighting the Council’s guiding theme, “Connect,” CA Sri Lanka President Mr. Tishan Subasinghe emphasized that professional success relies on both technical competence and effective global communication.
“While technical excellence will always remain at its core, our ability to connect with people, markets, and ideas beyond our own borders will increasingly define how effectively we create value,” stated Mr. Subasinghe. He added that “StepUp English” reflects the Institute’s duty to provide the next generation with accessible tools for future growth.
